Water Chlorination and Flushing to Take Place in July 2024

Published on May 23, 2024

Beginning on July 15 and running through July 29, the City of Coral Springs Utilities & Engineering Division, Royal Waterworks, Coral Springs Improvement District, and the North Springs Improvement District will temporarily change their chlorinating water method to comply with the Department of Environmental Protection recommendations. As a result, during the two-week period, you may notice a chlorine taste or odor in your tap water.

In addition, water main flushing will also occur during this period between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Due to fire hydrant flushing, temporary discoloration of the water and a reduction in pressure may occur.

The flushing program serves two essential functions. First, it minimizes the build-up of minerals and other sediments, affecting water quality and flow over time. Secondly, it allows water departments to verify that fire hydrants correctly work for vital fire protection.

These temporary conditions should not be harmful to your health. Customers are cautioned to do the following:

  • Determine if the water is clear before washing clothes.
  • Set aside water for drinking and cooking and check water clarity before use.
  • If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes. If conditions persist, please get in touch with your water provider at the number below.
  • If you are on kidney dialysis, please consult your physician for special instructions.
  • Please get in touch with your local pet store for advice if you have tropical fish or aquatic animals.
  • Customers with inline filters may want to contact their equipment manufacturer for guidance on use during chlorination.
  • If you are especially sensitive to the taste and odor of chlorine, keep an open container of tap water in your refrigerator. This will enable the chlorine to dissipate, reducing its taste. Remember, drinking water from the tap has a shelf life; always change the container weekly.

We regret any inconvenience you may experience, but this is necessary to maintain our high-quality water standards. If you are unsure of your water service provider, click here.
