Looking to make a positive impact on our youth? Our Safe Keepers program is seeking new members. Safe Keepers are volunteers stationed at local schools who aim to create a positive environment for students as they arrive and leave school every day.

Duties include:

  • Offer positive encouragement, meaningful conversation, and motivation to students, parents, and staff as they arrive at and leave school every day.
  • Monitor student activity and report suspicious behavior or potentially dangerous situations to security.
  • Familiarize yourself with school policies and rules.
  • Verbally address students, when needed, who are in violation of school policies and school rules. 

SafeKeepers do not serve as a replacement for security guards. All schools are staffed with at least one security guard and one School Resource Officer (SRO) during school hours.

How to Apply

Step 1.Review Guidelines Before Applying

Please review Broward County's guidelines and volunteer services disclosure before applying to the program.

Step 2.Fill Out and Submit Application

Fill out the Broward County Public School Volunteer Application for the current school year.

  • Select your preferred school on the application.
  • In Section 4, choose Cafeteria and PTA/PTSA.
  • In section 5, choose Safe Keepers.

Step 3.After You're Approved

Email Dawn Musil( dmusil@coralsprings.gov ) with your name letting her know your application to be a Safe Keeper has been approved.

School Shifts

For the morning and afternoon shifts, a SafeKeeper must do the following:

  • Report to school 15-30 minutes prior to first bell during the morning shift and prior to last bell during the afternoon shift.
  • Obtain a volunteer badge from the office.
  • Return volunteer badge to the office after classes begin and after students go home at the end of the day.

Important Information

  • A new application needs to be filled out for every school year.
  • Approval or denial can take up to two weeks.
  • If approved, you will receive orientation information along with your uniform and shift assignments.
  • School start and end times vary. View the "Schools Shifts" tab on this page.
  • Shifts typically last about one hour.
